  • Silver Award Project Proposal

    Prerequisites
  • The Silver Award is an individual leadership award and, therefore, certain fields of this form require individual answers. Each member must share their individual answers to these sections in their own words.

Please note that if the content of these fields is the same across multiple Project Team members, the Silver Award Review Board will request to receive these individual answers resulting in a delay in the approval process.

In other words, do not copy and paste your Project Team's answers.

  • 8. Please provide a description of your leadership. (See the Cadette Workbook for Earning Your Silver Award, Steps 2 and 5.)

  • Project Teams: Again, this is an individual LEADERSHIP award.

Each Team Member needs to have a UNIQUE leadership role listed! The description must be unique too.

You might consider listing all the tasks needed to complete your project and then divide them between each of you. Each description will explain how all the leadership skills of that team member will shine.

Each of you may have more than one!

    Funding Your Silver Award Project

There are three options for funding your Silver Award project:

    1)     Self-funding

Includes a girl’s own money, money from family or friends, and/or troop funds. Council approval not needed. Personal donations to a Silver Award project are not eligible for tax receipts. Council cannot provide a copy of its 501c(3) letter or tax ID number for self-funding donations.

    2)     Additional Money-Earning Activities

Includes girl-planned, money-earning activities (providing a product or service in exchange for money) beyond the Girl Scout product sales. Requires prior approval from Council (i.e. via your Community Leadership Team (CLT)). To be eligible, the girl/EACH girl in a Project Team must have participated in the past two GSSJC product sales & received permission from Council (F-32) prior to the money-earning activity.

    3)     Solicitation for In-Kind Donations

Includes seeking non-monetary, in-kind donations (supplies) from any business, organization, or established group, especially (BUT NOT LIMITED TO) those that will require a tax receipt. To be eligible, the girl/EACH girl in a Project Team must have participated in the past two GSSJC product sales & received permission from Council (i.e. the Silver Award Manager) (F-30A) prior to the solicitation and the supporting documents F-30B & F-30C for more information.

(NOTE: Silver Award candidates may not solicit for monetary donations. Girl Scouts can never use GoFundMe and similar crowd funding.)

  • 9. Silver Award projects sometimes require money or nonmonetary donations of goods. If your project requires this, then please estimate supplies/donations needed and potential costs. A budget worksheet with actual supplies and costs will be required with the Final Report. (See the Cadette Workbook for Earning Your Silver Award, Step 5 and the template pages.)

You may fill out the table &/or upload any file type.

For expenses describe the items you will need and indicate an estimated value for the items. For example:

    Paper $0.30
    Snacks $25
    Wood $50
    Bags for kits $25
    Computer (already own) $0
    Art supplies (already have) $0
    Free website making platform $0

  • The Review Board needs to see your list of possible supplies/expenses. There is value to the resources that you are using even when they are donated or used.

If you have selected 'None' as your funding, please be sure this will make sense to the review board. If they feel you will need materials or supplies they will table for more information.

See below for more information to help you properly categorize and list your expenses:

If it is 'free' then state so: for example" "free website platform", and you then may list it as $0.

If you are going to use/consume an item, you would claim 'self-funded' and give it a numerical value.

If you already have the item and are just using it as a tool and not consuming it for the project, you would claim 'self-funded' and could list it as $0 but state so in the description.

    See examples above.

Use 'garage sale' prices if needed.

We want to see your thought process!

  • If uploading something only, state "See attached" in the table above.

  • Try It!

These are Optional but Highly Recommended
    • What is Girl Scouts looking for with the National Global link?
    • It is very common for everyone to think that the National/Global link means the respective review boards want to see how the girls are going to make their projects national or global. This is not the case. We hope that takes a lot of pressure off!

      National/Global (N/G) Link
: the intention of this category is to reflect on how you see the problem/issue on a national/global scale. Where else is it seen? Are there any similarities to how you see the local problem? Are there any differences? What, if any, are other people doing to solve the problem/issue for their area? Do they see any different root causes that they are addressing? Usually, it's just a simple google search and looking at different articles or websites and referring to their statistics and other information.

At the Bronze & Silver Award (and Cadette journey and below) level it is optional. So just going through the motions of the exercise is all that is needed (if that’s what they want to do). If a Silver Award proposal writer wants to share, she may in the optional field. They would give a sentence or two on what the Girl Scout/Group discovered. They may discover that their issue is not really National/Global-and that is ok at the Silver Award level.

  • Finalizing!

    Acknowledgments and Signatures
  • We*—the Girl Scout Cadette(s), troop/group leader, and adult Girl Scout volunteer supervisor—agree and understand that the Silver Award Project:

    • Cannot be just a collection or donation drive. Donations may be part of a larger Silver Award project.
    • Cannot be a fundraiser for another organization, program, or individual.
    • Is not simply volunteering time for another organization in an already existing project.
    • Cannot be done by multiple teams. Only one team (1–4 Girl Scouts) may collaborate on each Silver Award project.
    • Is a Take Action project, not a community service project—even if the community service project is very large and takes a lot of time and hard work.

I, Girl Scout Cadette, have read and understand all the requirements and guidelines specific to the Girl Scout Silver Award as outlined by the Cadette Workbook for Earning Your Silver Award and council-specific requirements. I am aware of all deadlines for the Girl Scout Silver Award. Should any major plans change, I will contact the person who approved my proposal.
